Comps application form. Students must apply before the deadline in order to sit for the test. Applications are due October 15th, February 15th, or May 15th of the semester you plan to take the examination. Students will be notified which of the 2 possible nights they are assigned to sit for the examination about 1 month before the test. It is advisable to keep both nights open on your calendar. The number of testing nights is based on the number of students who apply and computer lab space that is available.

The Examination: It is highly recommended that you do NOT sit for the examination until you are taking your last course(s) or have finished all coursework. 90% of the students who fail the test have NOT completed their core course. You can only re-take the examination once. It is not in your best interest to sit for the examination prior to completing your core courses. The test covers all required EDAD courses except Research. If you have not completed all your required courses, you will be at a disadvantage and probably will not pass.

The first half of the test is a set of objective question from all required courses. The second half of the test provides you with an array of essay questions. There is a question from each required course. You will select one essay of your choice to write.

Students must pass both the objective and essay section of the test in order to PASS. Student who do not pass may take the test again on the next testing date.

The Comprehensive Examination assesses your content knowledge. It is designed to measure your understanding of educational theory. The Illinois Type 75 test is more heavily weighted on our ability to apply theory to practice.
