Conference Theme There are numerous texts and debates concerning ethics and globalization. Important as this topic is, we suggest that the conference should focus on the ETHOS of public life. The term "ethos" means every persons rights and duties with respect to public issues at all levels. We propose to ask the participants to investigate, in their fields and practices, what sort of demands are placed on public institutions, from governmental through economic, to cultural, to guarantee the rights of all citizens an access to such institutions, and what sorts of responsibilities the citizen has to participate in such institutions.
